Musée de la Photographie de Madagascar (Rue Andriamanalina Ravelomanantsoa, Derrière l’Etat major, Antananarivo 101) — Just a short walk down from the former Queen’s Palace of Manjakamiadana, the first museum of photography is a real innovation for the capital city of Madagascar.

The gallery represents various photography collection showing the history of Madagascar through different periods (1860-1960), the daily life of the Malagasy people, images after the independence and the period of great constructions. It’s another way to learn more about Madagascar and the hidden history of the “Town of Thousand”. It also offers projection rooms to screen films and an exhibition space which display life in Antananarivo.

Next to this museum is the “Café du Musée (open from) – which serves gourmet quality coffee. Admission: 5,000 Ar (adult), 1,000 Ar. (students 13-25 years old), free for children up to 12 years old. Hours: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (Tuesday to Sunday), closed on Mondays.
