Lac Anosy (Rue Ramahatra, Antananarivo) – this is a heart-shaped man-made lake located in the old downtown district of the capital. In the middle of this lake is the Monument aux Morts — erected in 1927 and was dedicated to the victims of World War I (including Malagasy soldiers who died fighting on behalf of France). The island where the Monument now stands once had a summer residence belonging to Queen Ranavalona I.
There is a causeway that connects the lake shore to the monument that visitors can take. However, due to ongoing concerns over the sanitary conditions of the lake, tourists have been advised to admire that site from afar, in particular from the viewpoint in the capital’s Haute-Ville
